Manuscript Editing

Developmental, Content & Copyediting

I'll be honest with you, I started narrating audiobooks because I ran out of things I was good at, I had a microphone from my radio days and I thought I'd give it a try. It turns out, I'm not half bad.

When it comes to editing...this is what I spent most of my life doing.

I have decades of experience working with aspiring journalists, feature writers, full-time bloggers, self-publishers, best-selling authors, and even one guy who wrote a manifesto he called a press release and asked me to fix it for him. (Okay technically I did not edit that, as I politely declined.)

If you have a project—from a how-to guide to a memoir to a multi-book fiction series—I can help. If you are looking for a project to have ghost-written, I can help. If you are looking to un-AI something you thought Claude could write for you...you're on your own.

No, for real. I can help. Here, I'll show you.

Whether you need a heavy developmental/content edit or a light copyedit, my rates start at two cents per word and I will walk you through any edits I make. If you are looking for a more personal touch, we can get on a video call and go over any ideas you are workshopping or questions you have. This can be before you get started, after you've already finished your first draft or anywhere in between. (NOTE: The earlier the better.)

Every author needs a good editor. Congrats...you just found yours.

Here is what authors say about working with Dan...

I am so impressed, and grateful, for your comprehensive review of my manuscript! My gratitude is heartfelt for your thorough critique, and I am looking forward to going through your editing comments. I felt genuinely cared for.
Your feedback was phenomenal, amazing, incredible, and all the things I can't put into words right now.... It was just what I needed emotionally to get this book over the finish line.

Honestly, I cried reading your comments, and I rarely cry. I know you don't believe everything happens for a reason, but it definitely wasn't a coincidence you were selected to be my editor. When I set out to write the book, I said if it helped just one person, it would be worth it. I hope, in some way, that one person was you.
The way you have fixed a lot of the smaller problems and left me with some options for the big holes is immensely appreciated. Your sense of humour is really keeping me on track.

It’s fun to work my way through and wonder what you’ll think of the next scene. And I appreciate you telling me a bit of your background as well. I am trying to immerse myself in how you are reading the scenes, where you have made suggestions for change, and it has opened my eyes to how the words matter. Your edits are teaching me a lot about what to look out for, and how to be consistent.
